...Gun people want freedom, not some nanny state forcing some unproven technology on us.
So you gun people wouldn't have a problem with it if it was "proven?" I don't believe you.

Why not just let capitalism work its magic. If the biometric guns are great they will displace standard guns. Also, make the police use the same technology if it's "proven"...
The freedom loving gun fetishists in the above article don't want to let the market work - they want to make smartgun advocates fear for their lives. It's terrorism.

And you still didn't say if you would support "proven" technology.

If it's not terrorism; it's certainly harassment and I condemn it. I explained why gun folks are so opposed to smartguns. It's not the smartguns they oppose, it's the nanny state laws that are triggered if the smartguns are made available. These folks feel the easiest way to neuter the smartgun laws is to keep them from being made available.

Do I support proven technology? I'm not opposed to the technology. I support capitalism.

Strange how a weapon "goes off" when the owner DOESN"T use the F'ng safety?

That's why they have CCW classes BEFORE you get a license.

You do not need to take classes in Georgia for a CW permit.
I had my permit in hand within 30 minutes of walking into the courthouse with no record check or training. That 30 minutes included walking across the street for the Sheriff's signature on the form.

REALLY!? I'm a huge proponent of 2nd amendment rights, but that's pretty crazy. There should at least be a simple test, something along the lines of the written drivers license test. Something.

I've never heard of a smartgun and did a quickie read of what they are. I could maybe see the magnetic safety feature as being useful for some, no invasion of pfivacy there that I can see but the verichip thing..NO F'n WAY

"Some smart gun technology uses a Verichip which is permanently embedded under the user's skin in order to activate.."

The NSA would jhave to be a whole other site to keep tabs on the sheep, er people. I have absolutely nothing to hide, but I'd vehemently protest something like this become law.
The NRA has a stroke if you suggest we implement background checks for guns in private sales to prevent criminals and mental patients from getting ahold of them. Just think what the reaction would be for smartgun legislation...especially if its a database the big, scary government can have access to.

Not all guns have mechanical safeties. I don't think the gun slipped and accidentally went off.

All guns have safeties, some are the squeeze type and others have a grip type in addition to the mechanical safety. (45 semi auto) In any case any responsible gun owner should be able to tell you rule #1 of gun safety: never point a gun at anything you don't intend to kill/shoot at. #2 All guns are loaded, see rule #1.

What do you consider the safety on a revolver or a Glock besides the trigger? Or is it that the gun won't fire unless the trigger is pulled a safety?

Revolvers, while not having a mechanical saftey, are typically double action. Meanimg it takes pulling the trigger far enough for the hammer to be cocked and then enguaging the firing pin. Standard revolvers take about 6 to 8 pounds to fire them. Also, they don't just "go off" when dropped. (an M-16 can if dropped correctly) Clocks have the squeeze saftey last I recall, although it has been awhile since I fired one.

You need a sheriff's signature, nothing more. He/she should do a background check, but in rural counties they often do not. Sheriff had never seen me before. I had lived in Georgia for two weeks. He asked where I worked and signed the form. 5 minutes.

You would be amazed at some of the mutants that carry guns in this state. I worry far more about one of these "law abiding" idiots getting drunk and firing a few shots into the woods for target practice than a robber.

We also have "flea market" sales here that have no background checks to purchase almost anything. 10 miles from my house is a flea market that often sells semi automatic weapons with instructions of what NOT to do to turn it into an automatic weapon. They are big with the survivalist crowd here.

I think this board is filled with intelligent lawful gun owners who are really unaware of the dark side of gun usage in America. Not everyone is a rationale intelligent human being.
Likewise, I have an uncle who is forbidden from owning firearms. Has been to court and has anger management issues, etc. He laughs it off and takes advantage of gun shows whose vendors don't know him and don't require ID to increase his arsenal. He's the crazy member of a family that all of us can probably relate to.

Admit it, "unproven technology" is just an afterthought for you. It's all about that terrible "nanny state," isn't it?

But what if car people want freedom from the nanny state which forces speed limits - and stop signs? What if manufacturer people want freedom from the nanny state, which forces zoning and pollution laws? What if communicator people want freedom from the nanny state, which forces laws regulating free speech like those against libel, slander, advocating the violent overthrow, yelling fire in a crowded theater, and producing kiddie porn?

You know snidely, you really shouldn't use the EXACT SAME LOGIC that could be used by the really despicable people indicated above. Because someone might mistake you for one of them.
Would Forkie consider voting for a Socialist candidate?

Good example of what I am talking about here regarding guns and idiots.
Happened last week: Idiot with a gun at child's baseball game:
Idiot

Stupid people do get permits around here. A LOT of them!
