oooo...that was fun.
Readers here are familiar enough with Don Diego to come to their own conclusion regarding his affinity for hyperbolic metaphors.
There is no open question regarding the leader of the government shutdown, Ted Cruz, and his love for such things. On the eve of the government shutdown he compared people who embraced Obamacare to Nazi appeasers in the rise of the Third Reich. I wonder if that's someone Don Diego believes is serious about negotiating.
As to Don Diego's opinion about delaying the mandate in the ACA...there's nothing wrong with having different opinions and wanting to negotiate. Most Democrats would love to negotiate an entire host of issues with Republicans: Immigration Reform, gun laws, a new voting rights act...just to name a few.
But here's the thing: I don't know of any Washington Democrats, their pundits, or anyone in their base that would think its an acceptable tactic to shutdown the US Federal Government as means to force the other side's hand in such negotiations. And that's really the difference. And the idea that Republicans think they are doing Democrats and the country a big favor by choosing select parts of the government to fund in the middle of their little game isn't fooling anyone .
