I had a delightful conversation with a health Insurance company rep this morning

I can't provide a link, but I can tell you that the insurance company is not paying those claims that are starting to come in from the January/Feb hospitalization. I read that the same way you do nevertheless the insurance company doesn't read it that way and is denying the claims. I will try and find some time and post one of those denial things they are sending out tomorrow. Keep in mind there is a lot of money at stake here my wife has been hospitalized 35 days so far in 2014 and 12 of those were in intensive care on life support.

Yes, malibber, the information from Kaiser is from last summer.

However, I don't think there's been an extension to the requirement that all employer plans cover pre-existing conditions beginning January 1, 2014. Can you provide a link to such an extension? As best I can tell, ALL employer plans that must cover pre-existing conditions now.

Also, I don't think you understand what you quoted from Kaiser. It says that while certain plans can be grandfathered, those plans also cannot exclude coverage for pre-existing conditions effective January 1, 2014. I think you've misread it to mean the opposite, that they CAN exclude coverage. You're reading it wrong.

Please provide a link stating that grandfathered employer plans have been excepted from the requirement that they cover pre-existing conditions effective January 1, 2014. I don't think such an extension has been made.

How about Chilcoot work pro bono and explains all this to Malibber's insurance company? Instead of worrying about links, we can get some real progress here and get a half million dollar bill paid.
Most of what DonDiego has Googled indicates that even if grandfathered-in, plans had to meet the ACA requirement to cover pre-existing conditions as of 1 January 2014.
For example: Health Care Reform

But maybe that's because they had been written before President Obama moved the deadline for employer-provided-plans to comply with the ACA to January 2015 by Executive Order.

These links suggest a grandfathered plan is not required to cover pre-exising conditions:
Grandfathered Plans
Keeping One's Plan

Thanks Obama

I think that Maliber's sad situation describes what is really wrong with this law - nobody understands it.

I wish maliber luck!
Over the next couple of years, people will go bankrupt and some will die because of DELAYS in the full implementation of Obamacare.

I find malibber's story utterly predictable.
obama is the one with the 38 changes and delays in implementing the law; in many cases it was due to the feds unable to meet deadlines

I feel for our friend Malibber..clearly he has fallen through the cracks. And Obama is worthy of blame for succumbing to pressure to grandfathering in old, snake oil healthcare plans.

I can scold him without contradicting myself in the process. But What do you say to people who complained about Obamacare forcing people out of their bogus health plans....and now complain those people are still in their bogus health plans? Some people just aren't serious on healthcare reform...they just want to talk smack. And that wouldn't be so bad if it were just internet forum junkies with no real power. It is bad when its half the people in Congress.

obama has made 38 changes to to the law that he said couldn't be changed; most of them due to the feds inability to implement the law that nobody understands

But it all went according to plan for the Republicans, didn't it?

  • delay with litigation all the way to the Supreme Court;
  • delay by refusing to set up marketplaces in red states;
  • delay by refusing to fund healthcare.gov;
  • sabotage by inventing phony horror stories about the law. (See Boilerman's scumbag friend Nick.)

    So malibber's plight is a victory for you guys, Boilerman. High fives all around! I bet you can't wait to hear about someone dying because of the delays.
