How about the korean rap singer who sang he hated America & sang at the white house?

I'm guessing the Food Network won't hire either one of them.

True but mtv will

You are correct, but as Number51 said, it is a market decision, not a moral one. The audience that watches the food network is very different than the one that watches MTV.
Young people like to be rebellious and tend to show their non conformity by conforming to anything that goes against traditional authority and culture. In my day it was Alice Cooper. Songs like Sick Things, Dead Babies and I Love the Dead would drive adults crazy. I loved the music, but never in my life did I consider necrophilia or infanticide to be acceptable behaviors. I doubt very much that the young kids today, while listening to some "gangsta rap" would think that killing a police officer was acceptable.
It is just part of the culture.

If someone can say "all she did was say the "n" word a while ago" and mean it, you don't get the point. This is far beyond offensive to African Americans. The Food Network reacted as many publically held companies would. Unfortunately, I don't know if they failed to renew her because it was so much offensive to them or just because it would adversely affect the business. It may have been different if she prased it in a way that showed she was ashamed for using such a word (and mean it), The outcome may have been different. I don't.
The rapper comparison makes no sense. If we find their lyrics wrong, it's simple. Don't buy their recordings. In Dean's case, it may affect sales at her restaurants and those of all of the cooking gear and cookbooks, which buy the way she probably wouldn't be selling without the Food Network!

On a personal note, losing her on the FC doesn't bother me as I never cared for her. I like her son's show redoing her recipes except for the part where they talk on the phone. "Oh Bobby honey, I think it's great you're redoing my recipe for deep fried butter in a healthy manner!"

Good Luck!
Ric at Joes

Umm, you just compared the same things. Don't like it, don't buy(patronize, whatever) it.

DonDiego was aware of the existence of Paula Dean, but he had no idea how many folks held such strong opinions on her character. Although he is not a regular viewer, DonDiego has seen Food network shows; he would suggest if a viewer dislikes a Food Network personality that he change the channel, . . . rather than expose himself to an embolism resulting from ever-growing hatred. But that's just DonDiego.

Nonetheless, this thread has served a purpose. To clarify the moral standing of a number of celebrities, . . . specifically with respect to the Paula Dean Standard, i.e. using the n-word:

Not-As-Bad
Alice Cooper - no physical violence; no name-calling; alcoholic; born-again Christian; golfer; songs did not cause necrophilia or baby-killing
Guy Fieri - affiliated with The Food Network
"Jack" Kennedy - no physical violence; no name-calling; just cheating and overusing pain-killers
snidely333 - no physical violence; acceptable name-caslling; alleged check cashing scheme
Tiger Woods - no physical violence; no name-calling; just spousal cheating.

About-Equal
Mel Gibson - alleged domestic violence; name-calling; drunk-driving; spousal cheating; Catholic

Worse
Idi Amin - killed members of out-of-favor ethnic groups, religious leaders, journalists, artists, senior bureaucrats, judges, lawyers, students and intellectuals, criminal suspects, and foreign nationals; spousal cheating; alleged cannibal
Chris Brown - felony domestic violence; alleged battery; employees spoke "homophobic slur"
Kobe "Black Mamba" Bryant - sexual assault
Park Jae-sang [aka Psy] - insulted US Servicemen singing a song with a racial epithet; considers Gangnam Style the greatest achievement of his life
Martha Stewart - jailed for security conspiracy, obstruction of justice, making false statements

Undetermined
Gangster Rappers - Use the n-word; alleged to influence gun-violence against police officers [Over the decade 2003-2012, 564 Law Enforcement Officers in the U.S. died of gunshot wounds.]

In November 2012 Governor Perry rejected a Statewide petition to secede from the United States.

With respect to "the Governor's Ranch:
i. The Ranch is not the Governor's Ranch. The Governor's spokesman has stated that the property used by the Perrys and guests for hunting, was never "owned, controlled, or managed" by them.
ii. The "n-word" was not on the gate; the word "Niggerhead" was painted on a rock next to the gate. "Niggerhead" was once a name "often [officially] given to mountains and creeks and rock outcroppings across the country" and even to soaps, chewing tobacco, and other household goods. Later, in 1962, after much civil rights lobbying, the U.S. Board on Geographic Names redubbed many of the locations "Negrohead". Apparently the Ranch property was never officially named; it is now called "North Camp Pasture".
iii. Nonetheless, the Governor has called the name “an offensive name that has no place in the modern world. The rock has been painted over and turned over for some years.

DonDiego notes it is more fun to just "talk about, . . . people we don't like", but sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

+1 To DonDiego

Bless his sweet little heart. After standing before a crowd and threatening seccession he later said he was sorry and rejected a petition of that nature. And he acknowledged the N word was bad ....after his hunting club was brought to public attention.

I knew he kept his job for a good reason! The moral of the story is one can say/do something ignorant and be forgiven - at least by some. And Paula can follow the same formula - in fact, she is. Yea, Paula! Now, on with the wedding.

So now if anyone claims racism you will be better off just paying them off, whether they are right or wrong. It would be smart for Rachel Rays employees to claim racism. Watch out for the double edge sword, employers will have more and more fear to hire a person they may think might cry racism. JMO
One more thing, I would never eat a buffet, use a pan or pot because it has anyones name on it. I will eat a buffet based on the food not the name!!!!! Why people buy anything based on an athlete, actor or celebrity is beyond me, I will never be able to figure it out. I know I am in the minority here.

Well heck, Bill Clinton practically got elected with his "Sister Souljah moment" condemning that kind of music. Probably not one of your favorite moments, huh hoops?

Speaking for myself, I think fantasizing about killing cops and fantasizing a slave master for the day party are both sick and depraved. But believe it or not, there are some people who are so hypocritical that they attack one but defend the other.

Hard to believe some people are like that, isn't it hoops?

You someone being cruicfied for a statement from over 20 years ago and a group of people who currently and on a consistent basis call for the death of cops and white people.

Most recently you have the idiot from last week who stomped on the flag - but he remains with his record producer.

No consistency
