Thank Goodness, the French are with the US, . . .

In spite of several instances of unpleasant exchanges among the participants on this thread DonDiego hasn't actually detected anyone in favor of the anticipated military adventure.

DonDiego can hardly imagine how unpleasant this thread would be if there were disagreement.

We are going to war again ( this is no. 3 ) because Syria is attacking itself.

The justification is the type of weapon they are now using and that it is a matter of OUR national security.

Really? Dead by one method is worse than by another. Gas is now worse than, oh say, napalm? Radiation poison? I think not. Ever seen someone take the brunt of a claymore charge? I have. Very ugly. Point is, one is as bad as another. Poor excuse.

And how does their civil war impact OUR security? I've felt quite secure trough the whole mess so far. While I feel sorry for the loss of life over there and all the suffering the population has to deal with, it just isn't for us to settle. If we become involved the result will be the same as it always is over there. After we stop the main fighting there will be a half dozen different groups fighting for control and blowing up whatever is left in the name of whatever they think is right at the moment. Sound familiar?

I think the American people have just about had it with the role of the worlds policeman. I know I sure have! We have bled enough for everyone else for a while. It's time to get the hell out of the Arabs business for a while. They don't want us and we sure don't need them.

Besides, when was the last time you were sleepless worried about an attack from Syria? Really?!

Usually I do not agree with Nemesis ---- but this time I am in 100% agreement. Good points.

I will add one more. What is Bashar Assad was not behind the chemical attacks? What if it were the rebels themselves trying to pull the US into the war? Sarin gas is a chemical weapon that almost anyone can make. We know it was used, but we do not know for sure who was behind it. What if it was NOT Assad? This is what Russia claims. What if they are right?

I thought of that myself. I doubt I'll ever fully trust whatever comes out of the govt.'s mouth again particularly the pres. Also, say we go in ,bomb the shit out of them, cause a huge political and power vacuum, what comes of all those [ahem] chemical weapons? What's to say the al-quea rebels turn around and use them against the US? I'm sure they would get some sort of twisted satisfaction outta that.
Last thing I beleived from Obama(no reason not to at the time) was that the attack on the Libyan embassy was because of some video. I choose to believe onr thing from the guy in a long time and it's that and I'm embarrassed to even say that. Never again.

The President is in a tough spot. But that's what presidents are elected for. The buck stops there. I saw and heard him draw the "Red Line". Now The President and his Secretary Of State and his head of The House are saying he didn't draw the "Red Line". SAD.

You know what the "joke" of the whole Syrian gassing issue is? We will kill more civilians than the gassing will kill in 3 years. Just look what happened to those poor Iraqi civilians.....and all because the oil companies wanted their oil wells back!

189 nations (not including Syria) signed the 1993 Chemical Weapons Convention. The Convention absolutely bans the production of chemical weapons and requires the destruction of those already existing.

That's the Red Line that the world drew in 1993, 20 years ago. Syria's apparent use of Sarin and other CWs over the past year represents the first instance of a country using CWs since the treaty was signed. President Obama is struggling to get support for his view that Syria's use of CWs requires some measure of military retaliation.

I have a feeling jatki and most of the other people freaking out about Syria were totally on board with Iraq.

I think both moves were the wrong decision, I said so in 2002 and I'm saying it again now. My guess is that much (not all) of the outrage on this forum is based more on the decision maker than the decision.

With the majority of the rest of most AMERICAN's, waiting to see what oour response was going to be of being bitch slapped hard by some POS terrorists on the international stage. So tored of hearing the crying about oil wells, WMD's or whatever. The US was going to go kick someones ass regardless and well we should have, to the extent of how far we went, well that's hindsight. Iraq seemed as good a place a ny to start, the logistics were already there and it was a response.

To even imply that there is any similarity between then and now for US involvement and reasons for such is so way off the mark, not even apples and oranges but then again, I'm sure you'll find a way. Some might buy it, I won't 'cause I know you.

DonDiego opposes the military operation because Armageddon is less than 60 miles from Damascus, . . . and he isn't sure which side the Antichrist is leading.

He'd hate to be supporting the wrong side.
