As for the sa comment about the 1998 Pontiac Trans Am......with the demise of Pontiac, and the earlier demise of the TA, those 98 TA's are collector items. Any TA is a collector item....and they bring big bucks. Check out the Mecum or Barrett Jackson auctions (Velocity or Speed Channel). Frenzied bidding every time one of those comes across the block.

Remember the late 70s TA's ? The ones made famous in Smokey And The Bandit ? They are bringing 30 to 35k each. And climbing.

Even Chelsea Handler joked last night about how she would have been far more embarrassed about the 98 TA than being found naked and drunk. There is nothing special about the car. The ones from the 70's make me want to cringe and ask "what were we thinking" with the big bird painted on the hood of a fiberglass car?
And Chelsea Handler is an expert on collector and special interrest cars ? Give me a frickin break.

And for the record, NONE.....I REPEAT NONE......of the 1970s factory Pontiac Trans Ams were made out of fiberglass. The Corvette body was made of fiberglass, but not the Pontiac Trans Am.

Chelsea needs to get out more often. Perhaps driving those piece of shit Toyota's has her pea sized brain warped.

And what were those Pontiac design engineers thinking when they plastered the Screaming Eagle on the hood of those late 70s TA's ?

SALES !

They sold the hell out of those cars back in the 70s. Burt and Jerry helped too. But if you wanted performance in 1975 thru 1979, the TA was the only game in town. Choose either the 403 (Oldsmobile produced) or the Pontiac 400, mate it with a THM or 4 spd, add T-Tops and WS-6 Suspension if you like, and a laundry list of other options at your disposal, and you had the hottest ride in town.

Antique and classic cars are MY BUSINESS. I watch the trends at auctions, car shows, ect... across the country. I buy and sell parts, cars, ect... The Pontiac Trans Am is the hottest collector car on the market today.

Nothing special about the car ? I say your wrong. But, don't listen to me. Just watch Barrett Jackson or Mecum sometime. Or try taking in one of the local car shows....check out the crowds that gather around those TA's. When they roll across a 70s TA at an auction , the bidding wars are intense. As a person who has driven a 1979 TA with a 403 mated to a THM and WS-6 Suspension, I can tell you that those cars are indeed special. Torque monsters with superb handling. Damn fun to drive too.

And I personally like that big ass Screamin Eagle on the hood !

Some people would love to own the General Lee also and would pay money as a collector. Does that mean the General Lee is a superb car?

You obviously must own or have owned a Trans Am. To me they're a very cheap attempt at trying to be a sports car.

I sure see a lot of fiberglass parts for sale for Trans Ams from the 70's. Maybe the whole body wasn't fiberglass, but the front and back ends definitely were fiberglass or plastic.

I had a 96 Trans Am...one year behind Randy's. It looked cool....and it was fast...and it was in the shop constantly. I had every electrical problem imaginable: power windows, power locks, stereo speakers shorted out, pop-up-headlight stopped popping up (that was funny - it looked like it had one eye open).

But it was cool when it worked. I felt like batman driving around in that thing. I sold when I moved from Florida to Chicago. They dont do very well on snow covered roads.
I'll take a '70 Cuda any day over a TA.
Not happy in that mug shot.
In other former celebrity news, where the celebrity is in desperate need of rehab, we have Brigitte Nielsen. Maybe a new girlfriend for Bags to take in?

Brigitte Nielsen appears disoriented, holds vodka bottle in bizarre appearance in public park

Brigitte Nielsen is lucky a Beverly Hills Cop didn't catch her chugging vodka in a Los Angeles park this weekend, as the 49-year-old former model and addict rolled around on the grass clutching a bottle in a bizarre public display.

Nielsen, once known for her roles in “Rocky IV” and “Beverly Hills Cop II,” was barely recognizable on Sunday as she seemed to be publicly intoxicated, holding a bottle of Popov vodka and scowling as she smoked cigarettes at a Los Angeles park.

Looking disoriented and haggard, she even lay down for a nap at one point, falling asleep in the Studio City park in broad daylight.

The 6-foot-tall Danish model and actress, once briefly married to Sylvester Stallone, looked far from her glamorous former self in a purple sweater, jeans and faded sneakers.

Actress Brigitte Nielsen may have hit rock bottom.

At times she hid her disheveled bleached-blond hair under a purple hat, seemingly trying to hide the bags under her eyes and harsh lines on her face.

The onetime glamazon, who has been open about her battle with alcohol abuse, could be in the throes of a relapse.

Nielsen, who has made a career in recent years of putting herself on display in reality television shows. She went to rehab in 2007.

Brigitte Nielsen was seen hanging out and getting drunk in a park in Los Angeles Saturday.

“I’m feeling good,” she said after completing the program at the time. “I feel like a new-born person . . . I made a choice about a new life. It’s not been easy but it was definitely time.”

Her fight for sobriety made it into the spotlight in 2008, when her season of VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew” aired, a follow-up to her stints on “The Surreal Life” and its spin-off “Strange Love,” which featured her surprising relationship with fellow fallen star Flava Flav.

Neilsen was barely recognizable from her modeling days.

Viewers watched as she gave up alcohol and cigarettes, which she later said caused her to gain a lot of weight.

“I’m the kind of person who way overdoes everything,” she said at the time, explaining that she had turned to alcohol to cope with the end of her 13-year marriage.

She was also linked to Jets legend Mark Gastineau, a member of the famed New York Sack Exchange.

The mother of four celebrated her sobriety with head-to-toe plastic surgery on a German TV show, according to People magazine, and married fifth husband Mattia Dessi in 2006.

I think he will become more famous as his " Fellow Grillbilly"s "
can relate.
I had a '76 white TA I bought in Albuquerque, NM for $3,600. It had a small block 400 and a red interior. (sorry, no T-top) Damn thing rose bloody hell when it was nice out, however let there be rain or heaven forbid snow, and that was a vastly different story. (not in a good way) RM, TA's were mostly metal with the exception of the bumpers, and they had a bunch of plastic crap in there. (maybe some fiber as I recall)

Alas, mine was totaled as some idiot ran a stop sign at Kirkland, just around the corner from the Headquarters building of the Air Force Security Police. I used the proceeds to buy a brand new..........
