EU vs US on COVID

The key thing PJ stated was -"a population that refuses to comply with simple protocols that keep the spread in check". As far as the quip--- "Leadership matters.---goes, you can not make people do what they need to do, no matter who is in charge.  The President NEVER recommended anyone  drink fish-tank cleaner. This is a lie.

One reason why the death rate is declining is that the average person infected is much younger. At first it hit at the nursing homes, remember? Now it's younger people who tend to feel invincible who are ignoring guidelines, just as they always have in other areas of their lives.

You cant make people do what they dont want to?

Europe figured out a way.

Its a helluva lot easier when your leader doesn't mock the protocols that are required to address the problem.

What "way" did Europe "figure out"?

Kevin, then explain why positive tests in Indiana were flat for a month while deaths dropped each of those four weeks and the two weeks beyond.........allowing for the lagging indicator.

Please explain how this could happen.

I have never cheered for the Florida and Nebraska governors.  Frankly, I don't know a bunch of what's going on there.

Kevin, deaths are decreasing across the US, and apparently you've not done your homework on this.  One has to dig really really hard to find the short paragraph in the NY Times data website that says this, however no chart.  They don't want people to know the good news.  Otherwise they would graph it just as they do cases.

Deaths nationwide WERE flattening out--now they're climbing again, and will for several weeks, lagging 3-6 weeks behind the increase in cases. Those that die from this, usually take a while to to so, from transmission, to incubation, to developing symptoms, to gradually worsening. The people now being wheeled into the ICU in Texas, Florida, etc. got infected over the free 'n easy Memorial Day weekend and its aftermath.

And since you don't seem to know what's happening in those red states, the states whose governors are the most loyal Trump lackeys are deliberately concealing the data on deaths. They either are not reporting them at all, or mislabeling them as deaths from "heart conditions" or some such. Reminds me of all those Jewish concentration camp inmates who died of "cholera," often tens of thousands on the same day.

So we know there are, and have been, considerably more CoVid-19 deaths than have been reported.

And your statement that "they don't want people to know the good news" is idiotic. What seems to be the actual case is that Trump and his lackeys don't want people to know the BAD news.

Widespread testing. A responsible citizenry that paid attention to social distancing measures. No political climate that made wearing or not wearing masks a sign of party loyalty. No leaders like Trump or Bolsinaro who downplayed and dismissed the threat for their own political gain. Universal health care, which allowed everyone to be treated regardless of socioeconomic status.

They got hit hard. But they had the social structure and institutions to be able to recover. We, on the other hand, have millions of people who won't wear masks because our glorious orange leader doesn't want to. We have had a systemic response that has been chaotic and directionless. No leadership at the highest levels. Europe has that. Currently, we don't.

True statements -1) A responsible citizenry that paid attention to social distancing measures, 2) we on the other hand, have millions of people who won't wear masks. ------  The Lies --The rest of Kevin's response is an unfactual "blame game" mantra that he constantly spews because of his hatred for President Trump.

More reality  -Coronavirus cases are “surging” according to public health experts and on Wednesday, the United States set a record for the highest single-day total of new diagnoses of the virus since the pandemic began back in March.

“Across the United States,” the Washington Post reported Thursday, “38,115 new infections were reported by state health departments on Wednesday — surpassing the previous single-day record of 34,203 set on April 25.”

Three of the country’s most populous states are responsible for the vast majority of new infections. California, Texas, and Florida are all experiencing virus “surges” and the number of cases in each of those states is steadily increasing, in some cases faster than during the first wave of COVID-19 infections.“Several factors contribute to the rise in cases,” according to health experts who spoke to CNN, including “private gatherings” held for Memorial Day, as well as gatherings at bars and restaurants.“We’re now seeing what is really happening, which is those 18- to 44-year-olds are being affected at a really high rate. Their social networks, their employment, is allowing them to mix at a higher rate, and we’re seeing the infection rate — especially in Texas, Florida, and Arizona — just skyrocketing in that demographic,” experts told the network.
