CRICKETS.....as usual, platitudes but no solutions. Five days since my last post and the murder count is up 16 to 526. And what have Chicago leaders done? Absolutely nothing.

PJ, since you apparently don't pay much attention......I grew up on the west side. And worked in these areas most of my adult life.
You need to land this plane before it runs out of fuel. Minimum wage concerns, improving schools, and building bridges with employers are items to be discussed.....but the killing needs to be stopped.
Yes my family and I worked hard and we had the option to leave this shooting gallery. And I still want to see the mayhem stopped!
What would I do? I'm glad you asked. I would bring in the National Guard. Not tomorrow. Tonight!
Chicago already has the toughest gun laws in the country....but gang bangers don't follow your laws. 510 murders so far, with no end in sight. I just would like to see these folks get some help.
If you have a better idea to stop the killing, let's here it.
Actually, there are very simple solutions. Don't let bad guys buy guns and punish those that sell guns to bad guys. You know like all of those gun sellers in Indiana.
It isn't hard to figure out where a gun came from after the fact. Remove the liability protection gun dealers/sellers currently enjoy so they can be sued by victims' families. That forces gun dealers to exercise a duty of care when selling a gun like people that sell products in other industries are required to do. For example, if you are a bar owner, you are expected to know when your patron has had too much to drink even though they may have not started drinking in your bar. Yet sell a gun to a dangerous person and you are absolved from all liability.
So Mark, do you think the bad guys are buying guns legally, in Indiana or anywhere else?
One of Chicago's many problems is a judicial system that, as the police chief said today is practicing catch and release with gun thugs.
Chicago will see the carnage go down as the weather cools down. Maybe liberals can arrange for all year round winter as a solution. Because democrats here have no clue.

Yep, they sure are. LInk
If guns were the problem, then why is Indiana's homicide rate 1/3rd that of south & West Chicago?
The 100,000 gang members in Chicago might have something to do with it.

You mean the whole state of Indiana vs your cherry picked zipcodes within the city of Chicago?
Well that sure sounds like Apples to Apples ...or someone desperate to fabricate a statistic
Mark said the easy access to guns in Indiana is the reason why there are so many shootings in Chicago.
If that was the case shootings in Indiana should be rampant. It is not.
It is bad people doing the shootings & the lack of interest on the part of local politicians to prosecute criminals.
Actually it is if you have the courage to compare inner city neighborhoods in Gary with inner city neighborhoods in Chicago.
But what do you do with someone who wants to compare those to Old McDonald's farm? Like you?
25 most dangerous cities in the UNited States
Chicago didn't make the list - but they probably would and Tulsa wouldnt if one gerrymanders their conversation to specific zipcodes like Tom does.
Only 2 of the 25 are run by Republicans. The top 22 are run by Democrats.
Thank you pj for proving my point. I think when 2020 is over Chicago & NY will be in the top 25.
With 28 shootings this past weekend diblasio called it a peaceful weekend.
Yet, 16 are in states run by conservatives. State legislatures determine how and where state funding goes to in particular communities. These days way too much money is being pumped into rural communities that will never be economically viable again at the expense of urban areas that are. The American economy has changed. We have to get over trying to prop-up rural communities that can no longer produce positive economic outcomes. Building new sidewalks, roads, libraries and other infrastructure in communities that are already economically dead is folly.
There is a town in a county I live in that used to have two restaurants, two grocery stores, several service stations, two hardware stores, two banks, two insurance offices, a dentist's office, a doctor's office and other small businesses. It also had a very large feed mill. The late 1960s was a long time ago.
By the early 00s the only business left was a ramshackle convenience store. The population has dwindled to less than 500 and the community is 99% white. In the last ten years, they have received from the state government an entirely new sewer system with new lines all throughout the community, a new library, new sidewalks, a new fire department building and funding for a full-time police officer and police car. The argument given for all of this investment is that the community needs infrastructure to attract new businesses. It doesn't matter how much infrastructure you sink into a community like that. It is in the middle of nowhere, with no major highways going thought it. Nobody is going to locate a big business there.
