Street "Performers" and Water "Sellers"

When the casinos get too many complaints about the street performers then the show ends. Until that time, deal with them or complain.

I don't mind the water peddlers as most I have delt with have stayed in one area and don't run over to you pushing their water in front of your face.
Some are creepy, and some aren't creepy. A sensible person can figure it out.

Please define creepy people. Does it include:

1. All Fremont Street Performers who work for tips?
2. All Bums, Beggars, Panhandlers?
3. All Street Preachers?
4. Union Pickets?
5. All charitable organizations seeking donations?
6. Any homeless person?
7. Tattooed Gang Bangers?
8. Anyone with too many Tattoos?
9. Don Diego?
10. Others?

I'm not talking personal offense, but instead personal injury. Think man, think!

Mr. Wishy washy. Please enlighten us oh sensible person...which are creepy and should be eliminated and which are not creepy and you will allow to stay in the public square? If you can't answer that simple question, then you've got no business claiming anyone should go.

Why do people give them money? It's not because they are shaming them into sympathy or badgering them like a panhandler. People give them money because they perceive a value in the service a busker provides....entertainment. Like I said, what others enjoy and are freely willing to pay for is just none of your business.

Let's see. They buy a costume. They put themselves into character. They manage to show up every day. They pose with your snot nosed bratty children and drunken smelly downtown partiers and all they ask is a small voluntary donation. Hell yes they're working. And it's harder work than a lot of them gobernment jobs.
YES! if they have talent and they entertain me,I'll give 'em a buck.
If they make me smile or giggle,I'll give 'em 2.
What's wrong with that?

Absolutely nothing.....because it's still a free country.

I can't answer who's creepy unless I'm there. If cupid is cleaned up, and his butt is covered than he's likely not creepy. My guess, however, is that he's still creepy. If I were there, I would very easily be able to point out the folks that are keeping patrons away. These folks are costing business owners money, thus causing harm. Honest, owners should have rights too! Don't forget, fewer patrons means fewer jobs.

If you talk with senior management at the Fremont casinos, they would tell you that they don't like a lot of the regular creepy people and would like to have them removed.

A leader makes difficult decisions. A Liberal is wishy washy and puts his finder up in the air to test the prevailing winds.

Ok...I see. Some are 'creepy' and some are not. Maybe Diaper Man is 'creepy' and maybe he isn't. Drmilled wants them all gone. Now, you won't ban all of the Street Performers, only the ones you find 'creepy'. Or rather you want to leave the decision about who can speak in the public square in a free country up to the Senior Management of the Fremont Casino. Don't you see how wrong that is? It's a slippery slope when we start giving up our rights to 'Senior Management'.

Businesses owners have rights too. They can refuse service. They can trespass people on their property. They can't toss people off the street because they don't like them or what they say or how they dress. Even the police can't do that....at least not in America. At least not yet.

But there's a solution for people like me in just four letters: LINQ.

We have a choice! Ain't America great?

But just how do you get to LINQ without passing Batman, Chuckie, Creepy Cupid or Monopoly Man ???...

Easy. Park at Harrah's, which connects with the Quad, which connects with the LINQ.
Or park at the Quad. Or take a cab to either location.
Or valet park.

You will not have to deal with Batman, Chuckie, Creepy Cupid or Monopoly Man. I guarantee it.

So your solution, if we want to avoid Batman, Chuckie, Creepy Cupid or Monopoly Man, is to either;

1. rent a car
2. or pay for a cab
3. or pay for valet

.......... but why should it co$t us ?????

Alanleroy posts "Ok...I see. Some are 'creepy' and some are not." Exactly, logical people are willing to assess a situation and come to a sensible conclusion.

And to your comment that police can't target certain folks to toss off of Fremont, they were doing it as recently as last year during my most recent trips. The East Fremont neighborhood is building up with new bars and restaurants. Young people, a bunch of whom are punks, have decided to frequent this area. They buy nothing and cause trouble. Some tend to hang in packs and scare people (yes, simply by their looks, body language, and numbers). The businesses in the neighborhood complained and the police began to target and boot the kids. Policed wouldn't admit to targeting, but they were targeting. Last year I could walk down the street (drink in hand) with five of my 54 year old buddies, and cops wouldn't bother us. A pack of young punks who do the same, and never enter enter a business were getting tossed. Like magic, the problem was solved and the business owners and paying patrons were pleased. Happy days.

Sensible conclusions don't suppress Freedom of Speech. Logical people don't trash the constitution because it's convenient or it makes them comfortable. The Management of The Fremont Casino shouldn't be able to kick people off of Fremont Street because he doesn't like how they look or what they say.

Actually what I said was they can't toss them off the street because "they don't like them or what they say or how they dress". That's the way it is in a Free Country. What happened to clean up East Fremont is they outlawed people drinking on the street outside the canopy. If you do that you'll be arrested too. It has nothing to do with the 'creepy' street performers you fear so much....The ones you can't really identify but sensible people can.
